About Tanika
I was born in Slovenia and have been living in Berlin since 2006. Yoga has been a constant source of inspiration in my life for over 20 years. I am currently part of an Iyengar Yoga Mentorship Programme with Elizabeth Smullens Brass at the Iyengar Yoga Zentrum Berlin.
For six years, I taught restorative yoga and pranayama at Tagtigall in Berlin-Neukölln. I completed a 200-hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training at the European Academy of Ayurveda and continue to deepen my practice through workshops and ongoing study with renowned teachers such as Elizabeth Smullens Brass, Katrin Voigt, Joan White, Gabriella Giubilaro, Firooza Ali Razvi, and Rajvi Mehta, among others.
Alongside my yoga practice, I have worked in the film industry for over 20 years, including at EAVE, the Berlinale Co-Production Market, and the Slovenian Film Fund. My professional work involves long hours at the computer and the pressure of deadlines, which can create both physical strain and mental stress. Yoga has consistently supported me in relieving tension, especially in the shoulders and back, reducing stress, and cultivating resilience in challenging times.
In the context of today’s global political and social uncertainty, yoga offers me a way to remain grounded while imagining a more compassionate future. Reflecting on ancient yogic texts as well as contemporary writings on yoga philosophy helps me keep my mind open, flexible, and responsive, enabling me to find moments of balance and meaning in a world that often feels out of balance.
My teaching is grounded in the Iyengar Yoga tradition, with an emphasis on precise alignment, careful sequencing, and individual guidance. I am interested in supporting students in developing a safe practice—one that builds strength and stability while cultivating sensitivity and self-observation. Through the thoughtful use of props and attention to detail, I aim to create a practice that encourages awareness, resilience, and a deeper connection to both body and breath.
